Things are changing

Hello out there, I hope everyone is well and the strange world we’re in at the moment isn’t effecting you too deeply.

NEMCEE is changing, I’ve had to take a step back and asses what’s working, what’s not and what I can do. I’ve had a lot of life stuff happen over the last couple of years and I think we can all be guilty of not realising the effects of things like that.

So, taking all these things into account, here’s the plan…

I’m heading back into working in industry which I’m really excited about. I’ll be in a busy factory that produces really high quality clothing, I’ve not sold my soul to fast fashion, don’t worry.

NEMCEE will of course continue, our relationship with a new partner in Japan is very exciting and this means working somewhat more ‘seasonally’ with a great, teeny tiny atelier here in Manchester.

Part of assessing what I can and can’t do is accepting that I am not much of a production machinist. I can sew and sew well but I’m no where near fast enough to be the only person making stock to be sent to multiple stores in Japan. (Good friend Nick of the Garmology / well dressed dad world told me a few times I can’t do it all myself and he was right, maybe should have listened earlier but we’re here now)

There won’t all of a sudden be seasonal styles but just that we’ll be offering certain fabrics at different times of year, sort of in line with what’s happening with the production for Japan.

The aim is to offer limited release small batches (drops if you’re that way inclined) maybe with a presale, I won’t say how regular they will be because I’m not sure at this point.

Now NEMCEE was always meant to be made to order but things have meant that’s worked well and less well over the years, I won’t be buying stock and sat on it trying to sell to you guys, I only want to make things people want- I think that’s key to my ethos about the clothing industry as a whole, if people want it maybe wait for it they’ll wear it and that’s my main thing- I want clothing to go out and live a life.

So where are we? Job, Japan, atelier, small batch… ok custom, this will still exist- but I’m going to limit what I offer. I’ll post on instagram/ email saying “Ok guys, I’ve got capacity to take on 2 custom orders” type thing and keep that really tight so I’m not loosing focus and letting anyone down.

I don’t want to lose that custom order offering because the conversation that comes with that stuff is the reason I love making clothes.

Someone saying what they think they want and why, choosing fabrics that will work for their life and finding a fit that makes them feel good is honestly so humbling and fulfilling.

So that’s the broad plan, in the immediate- the first limited batch will be available a week today 31st of August at 10am.

A very very small number of the #013 Overcoats in 3 colours- British green, Navy and a new and exciting Ecru. All waxed cotton herringbone from Halley Stevensons. Finished with a luxury corduroy from Brisbane Moss and UK made Corozo buttons from Courtney and Co.

They’ll ship 2 weeks later from 16th of September.

More on this in the next few days.

Apologies if this has been a bit miserable and rambling but I felt I needed to write out some of the stuff in my head and what’s happening going forward.

Thanks guys, big love

Niamh x
